Pole barn door header.
All pole buildings are figured on a cleared level and prepared site.
Concrete post footers are required for all posts except entry door posts.
Measure 5 1 2 up from the bottom of header at each jamb post.
Their is no notching permitted in the center third of any beam.
Snap chalk line across header bottom chord of truss place 2x6 track board with top edge flush with chalk line place track board so top of 2x4 is flush with line from center of post jamb to end of door in open position.
Both headers and girders are beams that are oriented horizontally and transfer load down to walls piers or posts.
Oak wall frame requires a single heavy wall header such as 2x12 lvl instead of two 2x12 yellow pine headers as used on pole barns.
Pole barn framing features.
The bottom side of the top jamb will be at 14 2 5 above grade 15 to clear 15 5 5.
That would take care of the wind and seismic shear loads.
With placement of the overhead door at the center of the endwall here is my answer to doug.
Notches on the outer thirds must not exceed 1 6 of the width of the board.
Footers are typically poured from local concrete.
Door is 12 wide so allow an extra 6 of width for the tracks.
This means at 13 6 from the sidewall you need to have 15 5 5 above grade.
